One machine that cuts, rubs and grinds
On most livestock farms, turning rough straw into edible feed takes three separate steps — and traditionally three separate machines: a forage cutter to chop the straw, a rubbing (silking) machine to soften it, and a grinder to mill it into powder. The 9ZR-4.5 cut-rub-grind combination machine does all three in a single pass, powered by one 4.5 kW or 5.5 kW motor.
The rotor carries wind-fire wheel discs for cutting, rubbing blades that crush the hard stalk nodes into silk-like fiber, and serrated blades that grind the rubbed material into powder. Material feeds in automatically on a chain-plate conveyor, so hands never go near the working parts.

Where the machine earns its keep — main applications
1. Silage and haylage preparation
For silage, the goal is material that compacts tightly and ferments fast. The 9ZR-4.5 first chops full-length corn straw, then rubs it — breaking the waxy nodes cattle normally refuse — so the mass packs densely in the pit or bag and excludes air. Its 3–10 m throwing discharge can blow processed forage directly into a silo, pit or bagging line, eliminating a separate conveying step.
2. Total mixed ration (TMR) ingredient preparation
Dairy and beef farms feeding a mixed ration need straw in short, soft, uniform form so it blends evenly with concentrates. Rubbed-and-ground straw from this machine absorbs moisture from the mix, is easier to digest, and leaves almost no refusals at the feed bunk.
3. Straw powder production
Ground straw is a sellable product in itself — as raw material for feed pellet production, mushroom substrate, biomass fuel briquettes and paper filler. At ≥4,500 kg/h of dry straw, one machine supports a small straw-powder business serving neighboring farms.
4. Custom processing services
The 180 kg machine loads into a small truck or trailer, making it practical for a mobile service: visit farms at harvest, process straw on site, and charge by the hour or by the ton. The chain-plate auto feeder keeps a second worker free to manage material flow.
Advantages over separate machines
- One drive instead of three. A single 4.5/5.5 kW motor replaces the motors of a cutter, a rubber and a grinder — lower purchase cost, less wiring and about two-thirds less floor space.
- No material handling between steps. Straw is fed once and exits finished. Moving material from machine to machine is where most labor hours and spillage disappear.
- Chain-plate automatic feeding. Steady, hands-free infeed protects workers and keeps throughput at the rated ≥4,500 kg/h.
- 3–10 m throwing discharge. Blow finished forage straight into a pit, bag or feed cart — no extra elevator needed.
- Dual voltage motors. 220 V and 380 V versions suit household farms and three-phase workshops alike, and export versions can be built for 50/60 Hz markets.
- Simple, serviceable build. Belt, chain, bearings and the figure-eight coupling ship as spares with the machine; blade changes need only common hand tools.
9ZR-4.5 or 9ZR-3.5 — which one fits your farm?
The combination machine also comes as the smaller 9ZR-3.5 model (≥3,500 kg/h, 160 kg). Choose the 9ZR-3.5 for household farms or single-barn operations; choose the 9ZR-4.5 when you process for several barns, run a custom service, or want spare capacity for the harvest peak. If you only need cutting and rubbing — no grinding — the dedicated 9ZR-4.5 forage cutter and silking machine and the larger 9ZR-6.5 (≥6,500 kg/h) are lighter options.
Completing the line
Two more machines pair naturally with the 9ZR-4.5. Grinding grain to mix with the straw? A Model 260 hammer mill covers the concentrate side. Moving finished powder or grain into storage? Our motor-type grain suction machines convey it up to 30 m.
